A Message from Our Executive Director

The 2018-19 Jack M. Champaigne Masterworks Series features the perfect balance of old and new: some of the most beloved and famous orchestral works are paired with recent compositions of living composers.  Elgar’s Enigma Variations, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 will be presented along with works by Bates, Frank and Jacobsen – some of which you might be hearing for the very first time.  Our popular Indiana Trust Pops Series showcases three exciting programs including music of Disney and music scores from some of the most popular sci- fi shows of all times.  The Sunday afternoon performances of the June H. Edwards Mosaic Series will feature two “Beethoven Cycle” concerts and collaborations with the University of Notre Dame and the South Bend Chamber Singers.

Additionally, the SBSO continues to bring onto the stage other special programs, including Michiana’s favorite Holiday tradition Home for the Holidays; the MLK Day Celebration Concert, celebrating diversity through music; and the Halloween Spooktacular! Family Concert, for our youngest audience members.

The SBSO’s Education and Community Engagement programs remain at the core of our mission.  Each year, these uniquely designed programs serve thousands across our region.  This year’s annual Shein Family Young People’s Discovery Concerts are expected to welcome over 6,000 students from two states.  Meanwhile, the Symphony-to-Go ensembles, formed by our principal musicians, will present over 54 performances offered free of charge to our community, in venues including schools, libraries, and retirement centers.

We are also excited to launch a brand-new series titled Happy Hour with the Symphony.  This 4-event series, curated by our Music Director Alastair Willis, and presented by the SBSO ensembles, will bring the music out of the concert hall into venues across our beautiful city!

As always, the SBSO gratefully acknowledges the generosity of our donors and sponsors, the loyalty of our subscribers, and the attendance of our patrons, including you.  We THANK YOU for your support!

Please enjoy today’s performance by the extraordinary musicians of the SBSO, and we look forward to seeing you again at future concerts!
