The South Bend Symphony
teams up with Purdue University's Physics on the Road program
to present a concert that unlocks the scientific mysteries
of how instruments make music. Through fun musical examples
and exciting onstage experiements students will gain a better
understanding of basic physics concepts and the scientific
method.
The
Young People’s Discovery Concerts introduce children
to the thrills of live orchestra concerts. Students learn
about a variety of musical subjects while listening to great
works of music, enjoying creative narration, and participating
in interactive activities led from the stage. In addition,
a study guide and CD are provided with registration allowing
teachers and students to prepare for the concert ahead of
time. The CD includes excerpts of the pieces to be performed
and the booklet is filled with biographical information on
the composers, tidbits about the pieces, and
musical activities based on the concert’s theme.
Application
Procedure:
There is a $2 fee per student, chaperones and students in
the free lunch program attend for free. After registration,
participants
will be sent an invoice and concert preparation materials.
The
registration deadline is Wednesday, March 1, 2008. |
