Each
year area high school students audition to play in the
Side-by- Side Orchestra and those selected have earned
the chance to perform with the South Bend Symphony during
the Spring Family Concert. The experience includes four
preparatory rehearsals with area teachers, a special
student rehearsal with SBSO music director,Tsung Yeh,
and two full Symphony rehearsals in which the students
have the opportunity to
perform exciting pieces from the orchestra repertoire.
Auditions
for participation in this exciting concert are open
to all High School students (grades 9-12) who play an
orchestral string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument
and who reside or attend school in one of the following
counties: Elkhart,
St. Joseph, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke, Berrien,
Cass.

Applications
shall include:
-Application Form,
download
-Musical
Resume, including education, teachers, awards, recital
and ensemble experience. For resume samples and tips, please

-Teacher Letter of Recommendation, indicating
applicant is capable of preparing for and performing in a
concert at this level.
Required
Repertoire:
-Solo
of choice: A solo work or excerpt totaling 5-7 minutes.
Please choose music that displays contrasting styles (lyrical/technical/etc.).
Judges may opt to listen to a shorter length.
-Major
and minor (harmonic) scales: up to four sharps and
flats- Sixteenth notes. Please select a tempo that demonstrates
your technical facility
